My first attempt at hop farming is about to bear fruit! In early April I started 2 Cascade and 2 Willamette hop rhizomes. Three poked throught the ground early on with one struggling to make an appearance. While encouraging their growth in the starter pots with nutrition and motivational speaches, I built a trellis out of PVC.
Since transplanting, one of the Cascades has struggled mightily, while the other one has climbed to top of the the 9'± trellis. The Willamettes have both grown steadily and are about 4-5' tall.
I hope to have a big enough harvest for a fresh hop pale ale this fall.
